Big Display on a Small Budget

The Apple’s 27 inch display is nice if you’re okay with the glossy screen and one thousand dollars is within budget. If not, check out the NEC Multisync 22 inch P221W-BK at about $450. It’s less than half the price and designed for graphics and photography use. It may not be as beautiful on your desk but the P221W does the job. The next size up is the 24 inch P241W for around $750. I tried the 22 inch P221 attached to my MacBook Pro and the display is nice. Both the P221 and P241 have an optional colorimeter for calibration. There are certainly higher quality displays out there (see us for recommendations) but these are good choices for the budget conscious. MacLab is an NEC reseller.

HP Designjet 111 Printer Deal

MacLab has a special offer on an HP Designjet 111 24″ large format printer. HP calls this “the smallest large format printer on the market.” It’s roll-feed with a single sheet feed in the front. Great for posters or any large output.

This is an “open box” special. We opened it and set it up for 30 minutes and boxed it back up. HP’s sells this printer for $896. We’re taking almost $350 off the price just for opening it.

Disposing of Old Macs Safely

When MacLab installs a new computer for you we can remove your old one, take it back to our office, erase the drive and dispose of the computer at no charge. If there are useful parts, we put them in our used parts area. Parts that cannot be repurposed will be taken to a disposal facility. Computers cannot be thrown in the trash because they are hazardous waste and contain toxic chemicals.

MacLab vs Mozy

MacLab and Mozy each offer off-site backup. I did a cost comparison and the results are in. For an online backup of a small office with 3 workstations, 100GB of data each (300GB total), MacLab’s service runs $60 per month, while Mozy runs $161.85. For a file server with 500GB of data, MacLab comes in at $60, Mozy $254.95. MacLab also includes installation on-site, monitoring, on-site backup and more. Mozy is a DIY operation. Amazon and Rackspace can’t compete either. Jump on while prices are still this low.
